Sadly this line has now been lifted for a rail trail that is seldom used with the investment in the trail never returning the business case proposed. The ALP Government in Victoria guaranteed the people the line between Cranbourne and Leongatha would never be lifted and promised to reopen the line. What they did instead was ensure the line was lifted into Leongatha. The then Kennett Government under Minister Allan Brown ensured the rails were lifted beyond Leongatha.
Victoria is a sad state of affairs that a mainline railway would ever be lifted with a marine port in use in South Gippsland with talk of the port being expanded.
South Gippsland is now really isolated more than most areas of the state of Victoria.
Alan brown was subject to a rumour his family owned the bus company in south Gippsland. The rails should never have been lifted. Much damage done in the Kennett years.
