Auckland ferries: Troubled waters remain

The deadlock around overhauling Auckland’s waterborne public transport services appears to have been broken, with the announcement of a $100 million deal to build publicly-owned vessels.

It’s a deal originally due more than five years ago, but the cost and complexities around Auckland’s ferry commuter market have taken that long to unpick.

In simple terms, one part of the new deal shifts ferry commuting to a similar model to trains.
