Norfolk Southern deliver 6 GT46C ACe for the Manildra Group in Australia

Six x GT46C ACe for the Manildra Group in Australia arrived Morehead City, NC USA yesterday via NS and are being loaded onto the BBC Destination today.

Photos really show the size difference between the US and Australian locomotives. They are subject to the same loading gauge requirements that apply through almost all of the NSW heavy rail standard gauge currently as they will also have to fit through places like Ardglen tunnel, and the restrictive clearances on various lines in the Sydney Trains and ARTC managed networks.

NSW has two or possibly three loading gauges, suburban rail (wider) and ‘the rest’. I think the western mainline west of Parkes is cleared for double-stack, but the wagons can not be wider than normal, only taller.

This locomotive was designed for operation on the standard gauge rail networks throughout Australia.
