Today we bid farewell and thank you to V/Line Chief Executive Officer Matt Carrick who is departing for a new role as Secretary of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.
Matt has led V/Line at a time of significant growth and change as we deliver more services, more trains, cheaper fares and huge projects in support of the communities we serve.
We are incredibly grateful to Matt for his hard work and dedication as CEO over the past three-and–a-half years and wish him all the best in his next role.
Stepping in for Matt as Acting CEO will be Warwick Horsley.
Warwick is an outstanding leader with extensive public and private sector transport experience, and is a valued member of our Executive Leadership Team, having led the delivery of a transformative program of network improvements over the past three years as V/Line’s Executive Director – Projects.
Warwick will act in the role for six months, while a recruitment process takes place for the position.V/line Media Centre
As we have always thought here it is not about getting the right person for the job it is about reward career public servants. V/Line is now at it worst with over crowding and late running trains, almost all lines have a punctuality performance issues, this despite substantial investments in the network.
We also now have an organisation that has failed to remediate patronage experience, poor train choices, removal of rolling stock and a plan to offer a bus on steel wheels approach to the travelling public. We have no plan for decarbonisation and continue to purchase diesel trains for suburban services, what a fantastic job.
V/Line is a company owned by all of us that spends more time patting their people on the back rather than encouraging them to be innovative and to excel at their role. It feels like this company strives on celebrating mediocrity.
How do you rate current V/Line performance?
Hi Brad, here some interesting things about the stand in CEO for now…..

Test of time I guess….

This guy might be much better on the CV.
I want to see someone who has customer service at the forefront and a strong management style to stamp their authority on the corporation it is floating and floundering.
I’m so over these 4 year CEO’s.
4 years is basically….I have no interest in the job I’ve been given…it’s just a stepping stone to something else. In 4 years time he’ll leave the department he’s heading and go somewhere else. He’s not alone in this and many or most others in senior positions move on after 4 years. What commitment did they really have to the job they were doing?
I do agree Mike this is not great for any government corporation. They fill these jobs with friends and people who they want for other jobs. They send them to a corp to make a mess and then move them on to a promotion. V/Line needs a crack management team and does not have anything close.
Well that is about the only thing you have done premier.
1.Having to stand or sit on the floor on Albury services every day occurance.
2.Removing all buffet services on all long distance trains in Victoria.
3.Operating Velocity short distance trains on 4 hours services to Bairnsdale,Warnambool, and favouring Ballarat,Bendigo and forgetting the other towns and cities.
5.Failing to provide adequate catering staff for Albury Services.
6.The people of Mildura,Dimboola,Horsham do not exist under your govt.
7.Failing to.perform proper maintenance on N Set Carriage Sets creating incide T’s that are extremely serious with carriages detaching from one another.
8.Not addressing the toxic diesel fumes the envelop Southern Cross Station Station with many workers and users getting very ill due to the complete failures of your govt.
9 The continued contempt and disdain for long distance train travellers by the service provided which is third world and does not compare with N.S.W. or Qld or W.A. long distance train services.
So when are you going to do something or is it like the bail laws just leave and forget until you are shamed into doing something.
It is galling and Audi ious for you to claim that you have done an outstanding job with V/Line services get out of your office and actually speak to the people that experience the woeful service provided by V/line.
In Shepparton,Albury,Swan Hill,Bairnsdale,Warnambool, and then theirs the no service to Horsham,Dimboola,Mildura and Sth Gippsland.
Stop building a gold service when it is atrocious, and contemptible on the Regional Rail Users in Victoria.
