The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out essential rail maintenance and improvement work on the Southern Highlands line this coming weekend.

During the works the line will be closed from Enfield West to Moss Vale from 10:30pm Friday 19 April to 2:00am Monday 22 April.

The line will also be closed between Moss Vale to Cootamundra from 6:00am Saturday 20 April to 6:30pm Sunday 21 April.

The work is part of ARTC’s annual maintenance program and will include;

  • Track tamping, rail grinding and re-sleepering
  • Turnout component replacement
  • Track resurfacing and mudhole removal at priority locations
  • Vegetation spraying and hazardous tree removal
  • Structure repairs and signal maintenance

Acting ARTC Group Executive, Operations Clinton Crump said the Southern Highlands line is an important part of the ARTC network.

“Regular maintenance ensures that this corridor will continue to operate as a vital part of the economic supply chain and provide travel connections to communities,” he said

“During this operation, we’re investing more than 10,000 work hours and approximately $8 million in essential works to maintain a high standard of safety and reliability.

“ARTC would like to thank the southern NSW community for its patience while these critical, long-term improvements take place.”

Coaches and buses will replace NSW TransLink services during the trackwork, and customers should visit Transportnsw.info or call 13 22 32 for assistance in planning their journey.

Additionally, ARTC will be undertaking rail grinding works between Moss Vale and Goulburn for periods of time from 17-19 April and 21-23 April. As a result there may be some minor alterations to passenger services.

ARTC is reminding motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant for altered traffic conditions near the rail corridor and to obey all road rules at level crossings, with rail machinery and other movements still occurring on the rail line.
