The third annual Rail Decarbonisation Conference will once again showcase the latest strategies, priorities, and best practices in the advancing commitment to decarbonise Australia’s rail sector.

Taking place over two days in Sydney on 5-6 August, the program will commence with two keynote addresses from Senator Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade, Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, and ONRSR Chief Executive, Dr Natalie Pelham.

Dr Pelham will discuss the regulator’s role in introducing new technologies, decarbonisation, and automation, whilst the Senator will delve into working with industry to manufacture the rail skills for a Future Made in Australia.

A state of the nation panel discussion featuring contributions from NSW, QLD, WA and the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts keeps the morning moving before Commbank’s Vivek Dhar delivers an update on the carbon market in Australia and its economic implications.

Following a networking lunch break, attendees will take in sessions, ‘what Aurizon’s transition to net-zero looks like’, and a case study from Queensland Rail’s Dr. Mahdi Mason, before a special international keynote presentation on Transport for London’s approach to decarbonisation, extreme weather, and climate resilience, presented by Transport for London’s Head of Sustainability, Sam Longman.

Day two kicks off with a further two international keynotes from City Rail Link Ltd and the European Commission in addition to two panel discussions on safety standards for new energy technology and a special strategic overview from decarbonisation leaders.

A final keynote address from Thom Rawson, Sustainable Rail Principal, RSSB UK covering RSSB’s Sustainable Rail Blueprint, will conclude proceedings.

Rail Decarbonisation is just one conference of three, with the other two being Rail Operations and Rail Infrastructure, that combine to make Connect Rail 2024 – an exciting multi-staged conference and exhibition taking place on 5-6 August 2024 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. Showcasing the latest innovations and business opportunities, the event will connect technology, knowledge, and people all under one roof for an interactive exchange of ideas and solutions.

All three conference stages, the exhibition, and the recharge station will all be on one floor, providing a seamless movement between experiences, opportunities to network, and those chance meetings.
