Many Australians recall the near-fatal crash involving Catherine Andrews, her husband, former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, and 15-year-old cyclist Ryan Meuleman.
An SUV driven by either Catherine or Daniel Andrews collided with Ryan, nearly killing him. Crash investigators were unable to determine who the driver was, because Daniel Andrews drove away the unroadworthy SUV to his rented holiday house before police could examine it.
Police officers on the scene failed to breathalyse Catherine and Daniel Andrews and then lied about doing so in a falsified report.
The Andrews’ maintained throughout that the crash was Ryan’s fault, that he hit them, and went to great lengths to blame Ryan in the media. Ryan maintains that he slowed down, looked both ways, and then proceeded to cross the road, and that the Andrews’ SUV was driving too fast and cut the corner, which is why Ryan didn’t see the vehicle before they crashed into him.
After nearly 11 years, previously hidden evidence including official documents, crash photographs, and witness statements have emerged, revealing a political coverup by the former Premier, his wife, and a number of Victoria Police officers.
