Alaska Airlines is one of two states in the United States that is not part of the mainland. On January 3, 1959, Alaska, which is connected to Canada, became the 49th state in the US. Today, the state has several small carriers that operate within Alaska, and five airlines operate from the US mainland. According to data from Cirium, there are 5,138 roundtrip flights to the mainland in August.
