Mendip Rail, a rail freight company active in the south of England, received 34 HOA hopper wagons. The rolling stock items are provided by VTG Raik UK.
The 34 wagons are part of a larger order of 203, with the rest of the vehicles to be delivered between this autumn and May 2025. With this order, Mendip Rail, which specialises in the transport of aggregates, will replace its hopper fleet, which is roughly 35 years old.
Mendip Rail, a joint venture between Heidelberg Materials UK and Aggregate Industries, moves approximately nine million tonnes of aggregate each year from quarries in the Mendip Hills. Much of the limestone transported from the quarries is moved by Mendip Rail’s ‘jumbo trains’ ,typically consist of a mixture of between 40-50 hopper and box wagons.
