Metro Trains Caulfied chaos amounts to poor planning and cost cutting

Chaos at Caulfield as @metrotrains make all passengers from Dandenong corridor transfer from Platform 3 to Platform 1 via the tunnel.

With new computerised signalling systems, given its off peak, surely FKN to CBD trains can be rerouted via Platform 2?

Maybe no longer possible with the amount of rationalisation of the network around Caulfield and the removal of key crossovers around the Caulfield area?

How long before the skyrail between Caulfield and Dandenong is at capacity another way poor planning has hampered and will continue to hamper the network.

  1. Significant and deliberate damage has been done at Caulfield. There is no room to reroute anything due to removal of flexibility and redundancy at the station. Crossovers have been removed and centre tracks also taken out making it impossible to make changes to routing into platforms and also around issues. Some months ago the entire line was out due to a defective train where other services could not be routed around the problem. This was discussed then.

It is a race to bottom with this metro trains company. Sky rail has made it impossible to pass anything on most of the Dandenong line. Sky rail also makes it impossible to add a 3rd track to Dandenong.

Enjoy your poor service on what is a major trunk line.

  2. The switch points were removed under the track simplification project. Was done during the CD9 lxr removals. Can’t reroute trains at Caulfield anymore. Service and getting people to where they need to go is secondary to reducing any costs.

  3. Who is making these stupid decisions and why does every change on the Metro Network have to involve going backwards for passengers and reliability? Rail networks are networks not individual lines like they are trying to make the system. having ways to keep traffic moving must be a key design configuration for any rail network why does this fail like everything else rail in Victoria?

  4. Victrack needs to explain its methodology behind the rationilisation of both the nth and sth junctions as the lack of foresight here is astonishing, their will be instances whereby their is disruption and now their is no solution that is commonsense.

Before this ridiculous removal of both junctions trains could be re routed to any platform at Caulfield and that was either on the up or down services, now that cannot occur and the inconvenience to paying customers is and will be considerable.

The beaurocrat that authorised this complete lack of foresight needs to be made accountable but will not be because they have a licence to do whatever they chose sadly.

  5. Seen it before in a few places. Both as a signalman and as a driver. I just laugh when everything falls over and you say I told you so. But as you said. No one is ever accountable. That is what sux.

They gutted my old stamping grounds at Ringwood. They straight railed Caulfield. They removed the crossovers at the down end of South Kensington.

There is talk of them wanting to rip up the Main Suburban Lines where the from the tunnel entrance up to North Melbourne Junction.

And also there is talk of them wanting to remove the crossovers between the RRL, Pass Lines and the Independent Goods Lines at Sunshine. Although someone I know in Metrol said there is alot of opposition to the removal of those crossovers and the removal of the Main Suburban Lines.

  6. Like East Richmond – centre tracks should take tunnel trains, outside tracks take FKN trains. Hawksburn to Malvern outside platforms only. Demolish the island platforms, straighten. Rebuild CFD to 2 x islands. Down FKN will need to dive under to get to Glen Huntly.
