Deer Park Railway Station built too short for new 9 car trains

A new railway platform at Deer Park Station fell short of just 10m for the promised nine-car trains.

The premier has denied it was an oversight and said it was part of the upcoming $650m upgrade to the Melton line.

Questions still remain on why the railway station was built as a skyrail making it impossible to add additional tracks for the Melbourne Project stated to be completed by 2028.

Are the new Melton works to include electrification of the rail line to Melton? If so will they be 9 car trains or 6 cars as they are now as a Metro Trains service?

In addition the Melton station upgrade is now proposed to be a skyrail across Melton again making it impossible to add capacity in the future. Why does it need to be a skyrail not a road bridge or take the road under the lines making space for 4 tracks like they do in other parts of Australia. The planning is non existent.

  1. Sky rail solution for deer park station was in hindsight a bad idea. This is a problem now how do you extend the platforms for sky rail and how do you add more tracks ?
