West Midlands transport leaders are working on proposals for three new railway stations in the region, BBC News reports.
The West Midlands Transport Executive (WMRE) has shortlisted Coventry East, Castle Bromwich, and the Tettenhall area.
As part of a feasibility study, WMRE identified areas that currently lacked rapid transport links, and had some high levels of deprivation.
A long list of five areas included Foleshill and Balsall Heath. WMRE added that the new stations would be built on existing lines and named with input from local residents.
A disused former railway station in Cirencester is due to be repaired, with councillors discussing how it could be used in future, according to BBC News.
Cotswold District Council’s cabinet has agreed to invest £158,000 in the repair of the Old Station, which has stood empty for several years.
New Brewery Arts withdrew from the renovation proposal, and the council is now looking at other options – adding that structural instabilities would be addressed.
A railway line in the Highlands of Scotland has been closed completely after sustaining “significant” damage to its sea defences, STV News reports.
According to Network Rail, the stretch of railway between Brora and Helmsdale remains closed today (Tuesday 13 February), after structural engineers went out to inspect it on Monday afternoon.
It said that remedial works were due to begin later today. ScotRail confirmed that several services (including on the Wick to Inverness line) would be affected.
And finally, disruption will continue today (Tuesday 13 February) after a landslip blocked the railway line between Coventry and Rugby at the weekend.
London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway have confirmed that no services will run between Coventry and Northampton, with disruption due to last all day.
Avanti West Coast has advised passengers that its services in the region will also be affected.
All operators have apologised to customers.
