The Victorian Government is delivering critical upgrades to the Shepperton Line, as works progress to deliver more frequent and reliable trains to communities in the Goulburn Valley.
Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson announced works will include rebuilding track through level crossings and providing vital improvements to bridges.
“Passengers are already enjoying more comfortable and reliable journeys on modern, accessible VLocity trains thanks to the Shepparton Line Upgrade – these upgrades will ensure we can deliver more frequent and reliable services,” he said.
The installation of new signalling infrastructure will also take place along sections of track between Seymour and Nagambie, and between Murchison East and Toolamba.
Coaches will replace Shepparton Line trains for part or all the journey from Saturday 9 March to Sunday 14 April and Seymour Line trains from Saturday 9 March to Sunday 24 March.
Major upgrades to a 26 kilometre section of track took place late last year, and the project has already upgraded stations at Murchison East, Nagambie and Mooroopna, delivered extra services and enabled modern VLocity trains to operate on the line.
The work is part of the more than $750 million invested in the Shepparton Line Upgrade by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments to modernise public transport throughout the region and deliver nine return weekday services for Shepparton line passengers.
Level crossings in High Street, Seymour and Schoolhouse Lane, Tallarook, were upgraded with improved train detection technology in January – enhancing safety for train and road users between Donnybrook and Shepparton.
Stage 3 of the project has delivered an extension of the Murchison East passing loop, allowing 1200-metre freight trains and two six-car VLocity trains to pass each other, and increased capacity at the new Shepparton stabling facility to house more VLocity trains.
VLine will also carry out important maintenance and upgrade works on the Shepparton and Seymour lines while trains are not running, minimising overall disruption to passengers.
