Melbourne’s $14 billion Metro Tunnel project is facing a “significant” issue, according to Heidi Murphy.
The government is currently working through a solution to the problem, with test trains through the tunnel currently disrupting important medical equipment in Parkville’s hospital precinct.
The Nine News State Political Reporter told Ross and Russ the government has known about the current issue for almost an decade.
The government knowing about this for a decade why was the route not solved for the train network to mitigations put in place at the time the design was finalised. Also clear the delays this has caused in opening the system has cost victorians $billions once again and this should have been avoided.
We have a great project very important for the city and Parkville station will be an important station on the network and now we cannot run trains at the designed timetable and speed. It again makes you wonder if there was a discussion between the unions on the project and the government about finding ways to delay the project but keep union labour engaged. Probably why the projects cost another $2b.
Looking at social media today makes you think if the government knew years ago a hospital proposed for the Arden Station precinct could never have been located at the precinct.
Other proposals on how to interconnect the Arden Station and surrounding areas should include underground connection walkways between the Arden Station and the current North Melbourne Station and into what buildings are being proposed for the site surrounding the railway precinct.
