With a number of rail improvement projects set to take place in North West England throughout February, Network Rail is advising passengers to check their services before travelling.
Rail Advent reported that scheduled improvement work will be carried out in the Southport and Wigan areas this month.
There will be a continuous closure until Sunday 18 February for electrification work on the Bolton to Wigan North Western line, with services also not running on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February.
Additionally, trains will not run on Sundays throughout March, with services between Wigan North Western, Ince, Hindley, Westhoughton, Lostock and Bolton affected.
Level crossings in Wake Cop, Pool Hay, and Chapel Lane will be renewed, Burscough signal box enhanced, and signals in the Parbold area upgraded.
Artificial intelligence specialist Cordell Group is now providing state-of-the-art data capture services on the UK’s first high speed line, HS1, City AM reports.
As part of a contract with Network Rail, Cordell Group has installed its technology (which provides engineering insights) on trains in everyday service.
The equipment captures data autonomously from the HS1 route, before uploading it to the cloud.
Mark Devereux, Head of Electrification and Plant at Network Rail High Speed, said that Cordell Group’s automated inspection management service and AI processing would give the infrastructure manager “ongoing rapid turnaround times.”
Repairs have begun on a stretch of Scotland’s Far North line, where wind and spring tides damaged sea defences at the weekend.
While work is now underway between Brora and Helmsdale, rail bosses said passengers should expect disruption for most of the working week, the Inverness Courier reports.
A Network Rail Scotland representative said the damage was more extensive than expected, adding that it would share another update on Wednesday (14 February) afternoon.
And finally, Filey station has unveiled a series of colourful new artworks by students from Calderdale College.
The work has been installed to enhance the appearance of temporary boarding on the doors and windows of the station waiting room, as well windows near the footbridge.
Showing everything from seafront scenes to passengers enjoying a fire in the old waiting room, it’s been hailed as a welcome addition to Filey’s station.
