The light rail plan for Wellington is one step closer to reality, as the Wellington City Council and the Greater Wellington Regional council agree with the Government’s preferred option. \
\
The Government last week announced light rail to Island Bay and a second Mt Victoria tunnel, with two dedicated lanes for public transport, as its preferred $7 billion option for mass rapid transit in Wellington. The project is part of Let’s Get Wellington Moving. \
\
The Wellington City Council and the Greater Wellington Regional Council both voted to move forward with the plan in successive meetings on Wednesday.
