Greenmesh Rail Safety and Operations is a complete end-to-end IoT solution developed to improve safety and security and provide operational efficiencies within the rail industry.

By utilising advanced AI and machine learning, as well as purpose-built sensors, rail level crossing safety can be monitored in real-time. This provides rail operators with the ability to identify:

  • if a vehicle doesn’t stop at a level crossing and capture vehicle details, including license plate and vehicle classification, vehicle types, colour, make, and model.
  • the number of vehicles waiting (how many per hour) and allowing them to adjust wait times accordingly.
  • vehicles of interest for maintenance rosters, schedules, compliance checks, etc. ensuring teams carry out routine maintenance checks regularly.

Rail operators are also given greater situational awareness by receiving alert for the following:

  • monitoring and predicting near misses before they happen (of vehicles or pedestrians at rail crossings). The algorithms will learn how vehicles move prior to an incident and near misses. It will then start to predict a near miss before it happens making the correct personnel aware of the situation.
  • vehicles that may be in an emergency (i.e. malfunctioning).
  • automate boom gates at level crossings – and confirm if they are working correctly.
  • precision grade real-time over-height detection (i.e. for bridges/tunnels)
  • verification if the locomotive forward facing lights are displaying correctly.
  • determine if there are any obstacles on route that could impact locomotive and provide early warning notification to driver and motorists.

Other features of Greenmesh Rail Safety and Operations solution include:

  • Maintenance & Operations – to assist with monitoring and operational status of rolling stock and other track and rail assets.
  • Security, theft & vandalism control – to detect and notify of unauthorised security threats or vandalism to existing railway locomotives or track side signs or theft of cargo associated rail assets.
  • Train Locomotive Tracking & Telematics with fleet management – to provide rich information relating to locomotive operations and real-time tracking of rolling stock and associated maintenance assets.
