Renters’ ‘severe anxiety’ and ‘trauma’ could pose election nightmare for Anthony Albanese

Renters are experiencing “severe levels of anxiety” and have landlord Anthony Albanese in their sights, according to a new poll that warns the fallout could rock the 2025 federal election.

In a new national poll prepared by pollsters Redbridge, voters revealed they are in financial distress not just in relation to mortgages but rising rents.

It suggests that Labor should still hold onto minority government, but that the situation is getting more perilous for the Prime Minister who is “getting shredded by the Greens with renters”.

“Renters, across all age groups, are expressing to us severe levels of anxiety,” RedBridge’s Kos Samaras told news.com.au.

“It’s not unusual for young women, in particular, to report spending well over 60 per cent of their income on rental payments.

“Hence, there is a political reckoning for all this trauma and it’s all heading for the federal government at this stage.”

The poll, conducted nationally and involving 2000 people, finds that support for the ALP and the Liberal Party is a close-run affair, with the ALP commanding 50.5 per cent of votes on a two-party preferred basis and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton on 49.5.
