Trade unions have sent a board member home at PKP Cargo. The board member in question was responsible for representing employees, but thousands of workers who signed the dismissal application claim that the board member demonstrated “passivity” in management.
Approximately 3100 PKP Cargo employees signed an application calling for the dismissal of their representative board member. According to the applicants, the board member “has demonstrated many years of passivity as a member of the management board in terms of appropriate management of the company.”
Moreover, they speak of “failure to take any action in the implementation of the company’s recovery programs submitted to the management board of PKP Cargo at the request of the trade unions.”
Tension at PKP Cargo
The situation between PKP Cargo, employees and trade unions has been rather tense amid the company’s attempt to get itself back on track financially. As the management board took the initial steps towards reform, it accused the trade unions of being uncooperative and “detached from reality”.
Later, the management board announced that thousands of employees would have to be fired. In an effort to save jobs, PKP Cargo signed eleven agreements with other companies for the transfer of employees.
