At the InnoTrans exhibition in Berlin, a new generation of double-decker regional trains for Australia, developed jointly by Hyundai Rotem, Mitsubishi Electric Australia, and UGL Rail, is being showcased, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The leading car of the D-series electric train (Mariyung) demonstrates a modern level of comfort and technology.
The trains are manufactured at Hyundai Rotem’s plant in Changwon, South Korea.
According to the 2016 contract and the 2021 option, the delivery of 122 trains is planned, including 61 six-car and 61 four-car sets.
Depending on the configuration, the trains can carry between 642 to 982 passengers, reaching a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Acceleration reaches 0.8 m/s², ensuring quick acceleration and smooth movement.
The interior of the cars is adapted to meet the needs of passengers with disabilities, as well as for transporting strollers, wheelchairs, bicycles, and luggage.
The introduction of the trains in New South Wales is expected by the end of December, four years later than originally planned.
The delay was caused by defects identified during the testing phases, which required modifications and corrections.
Nevertheless, the new rolling stock is expected to significantly improve passenger transportation quality in the region, providing comfort and high capacity for passengers.
