October 13 is not a good day in the history of Russian national carrier Aeroflot, with the airline suffering two fatal crashes on this day. The two accidents, in which 296 people perished, occurred exactly one year apart. On October 13, 1972, an Aeroflot IIyushin II-62 crashed near Moscow, killing all 174 passengers and crew onboard. One year later, on October 13, 1973, an Aeroflot Tupolev Tu-104B crashed near Moscow-Domodedovo Airport (DME), killing all 122 passengers and crew.
