Nevomo, a tech company developing magnetic levitation concepts for rail freight, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Etihad Rail. The Poland-based company will explore the possibilities of implementing its MagRail Booster along the railways in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This is not the first instance in which Nevomo looks outside of the Polish and European borders. Last spring, the company launched a cooperation with Umeandus to improve connectivity between Indian ports and the hinterland, especially in the context of the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor.
Nevomo’s MagRail Booster
MagRail allows the independent movement of railway wagons without the need for a locomotive. This is because each wagon, as well as the tracks, is equipped with the Booster. Existing wagons would be retrofitted with an electric propulsion with a linear motor that would make them ‘float’ along the railway. In this way, they can then travel as part of full trains, in smaller groups or even individually.
In the video, you can see the first full-scale MagRail tests that took place in Gdanks, Poland, in September 2023
