Kazakh Railways (KTZ) has tested a service with a double-stack container load. Its freight subsidiary KTZ Express cooperated with wagon manufacturer Ziksto (ЗИКСТО) to make the test a reality.
The train departed from the Altynkol border crossing at Khorgos and made its way over to Zhetigen, just north of Almaty. The train then returned to Altynkol. “The main advantage of this technology is the growth in transportation efficiency due to the growth of throughput capacity and mobility”, KTZ said.
“Double-stack loading of containers allows for the transportation of more freight in a single trip, which stimulates the decrease of logistics costs and speeds up delivery.” Kazakh wagon manufacturer Ziksto developed a new wagon to make the test a reality, KTZ stated.
