Here’s a bit of a mixed announcement… as I countdown to May 2025 marking the 10th Anniversary of the Philden Model Railway Blog, my days of modelling in Australian HO Scale are soon coming to an end.
After nearly 10 years of blogging away on Philden Model Railway, writing 16 railway and model train books, building 4 Australian layouts, (and abandoning numerous others along the way), all while excitedly collecting a lot of stuff I didn’t need at model train club buy-and-sells, it has reached the point where it has all become too much. Model trains can quite easily take over your life if you’re not careful, and with my mind now thriving in other creative fields, it is the right time to put things back in their place.
For the foreseeable future, I’ve decided to keep my model train hobby contained to the OO9 Welsh Highlands narrow gauge layout I started constructing last year. The layout is small and compact enough to be able to come with me anywhere, with the added advantage of not taking up a large part of my head space.
As a result, I’ve already started clearing space in my study for my other arts projects, and am now busy planning how to redecorate our loungeroom once we no longer have a 3.3 metre long model railway occupying our small apartment, (more details on that will follow). Ahead of that decision, all the books, reference details, memorabilia, collectible items, tickets, timetables, signs, lanterns, railway DVD’s and rare magazines that I’m effectively finished with, are slowly being photographed and listed for sale on eBay. It will probably take me until the end of the month to go through them all.
October also marks the beginning of my 25th year of being a registered seller on eBay. It was something I decided might be worthwhile joining back in September 2000 shortly after returning from the Sydney Olympics! And as I like the ability to be able to set a fair price for a buy-now listing and simply letting it do its thing; I’ll only be offering my collection for sale through eBay. So please feel free to share this post with your friends, on your own social media accounts or simply click on the banner below to keep an eye on my entire inventory that I’ll be adding to over the remainder of the year.
Until next time…
