When designing a new airport, especially one that is set to be a global hub, architects and civil engineers are forced to balance the diverse desires of airlines and passengers, both of which are primarily seeking operational efficiency. For many airports, it is difficult to strike a balance between these two, as one will find passengers complaining about long walks to gates and airlines complaining about a lack of available gate space.
