The Polish transport and logistics company CLIP Group is launching a new container and semi-trailer rail service between the Polish Swarzedz terminal and the Can Tunis terminal near Barcelona. Captrain will operate two weekly round-trips for the service, with the first train departing Barcelona this week.
“We are focused on creating an intermodal service that works well between Barcelona and Swarzedz” with the goal that more round-trips will be added “once the expected quality standards are reached and approved”, CLIP Group says. The company is reportedly aiming for 5 round-trips per week. Trains can carry 38 intermodal transport units.
The Polish company points to environmental benefits, but also truck driver shortages as underlying reasons for its rail endeavour to Barcelona. Its ambitions are not only limited to this service, however, as the company says it plans to “expand services in Spain to better respond to the needs of local markets, which will contribute to their development and increase our presence in the region.” CLIP Group considers it “crucial to take advantage of the potential of the Mediterranean Corridor.”
