Airline mergers are critical, market-changing events that happen only a few times in markets like the United States every decade. While there are smaller acquisitions of regional carriers, cargo airlines, or other relatively small operators, there are relatively few headline mergers that involve major commercial airlines joining up to form a new carrier.
