On Wednesday, October 30th, the United Kingdom government revealed plans to increase Air Passenger Duty. This is an additional tax charged to passengers on flights that are departing from the UK. The UK government announced that Air Passenger Duty has not kept up with inflation, meaning it was due for an increase. However, the increase will only have a slight effect on commercial flights. Instead, travelers flying on a private jet can expect to see up to a 50% increase in their Air Passenger Duty charge.
