Member for the South-West Coast Roma Britnell has raised the question in Parliament about what the Government will do to fix the pothole issues in Regional Victoria.
She revealed a police car failed to make it to their destination, due to puncturing a tyre on a pothole on their way to the fatal collision.
Roma Britnell joined 3AW Drive to talk about the skyrocketing pothole problem in Regional Victoria.
“The potholes are just so outrageous now,” Britnell said on 3AW Drive.
Roma Britnell is one of the few politicians who get it.
It has been said on this site many times the trucks are the biggest contributor to the damaged roads around the state as evidenced by admissions from the roads and freight minister Melissa Horne.
Vicroads have made some seriously bad policy decisions around the size and weight of heavy vehicles now using not only regional roads but also suburban roads. The environment is suffering from the flawed transport policies of this failed government. Our roads are less safe under this failed government.
Only recently, the Victorian government has defended the state’s logistics capacity after a freight giant scrapped plans for a new rail terminal. Pacific National failed to gain support for a new intermodal terminal in Melbourne’s west which if delivered would have reduced truck movements around the state.
Katie Hall MP the ALP Member for Footscray recently placed a press release on her page but also shared it on social media namely Facebook and Instagram. This was fact checked and when the editor of this site responded he was blocked by her. This was an attempt to create the perception of reduced truck movements around the Port of Melbourne and Footscray. More misinformation by the government.
Over the next 20 years, the freight task in the state of Victoria is expected to experience significant growth and the current government has no plans to address this huge uplift in freight. In fact V/Line have been pulling up rail tracks in Victoria with the blessing of the government making large areas of the state in accessible for rail freight and passenger services.
Business case for an intermodal terminal at Portland has been produced with no action from the government in years despite the Portland Rail Line getting some much needed investment.
