It was June 12, 1972. American Airlines flight 96 was preparing to take off from Detroit Metropolitan Airport onwards to Buffalo, Niagara. The flight started in Los Angeles and was bound for New York’s LaGuardia Airport via Detroit and Buffalo. The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 had 56 passengers and 11 crew onboard.
