The leaders of the United Kingdom, Japan, and Italy discussed potentially broadening the sixth-generation Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) to include other countries while meeting on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Brazil. The Tempest or GCAP fighter is planned to be armed with lasers, be a ‘system-of-systems,’ have a ‘wearable cockpit,’ and much more. GCAP is only concerned with the development of the manned fighter jet – unlike the US Air Force’s counter part, NGAD, which also includes CCA or loyal wingman drones.
