While jet fighters debuted in World War II ( both the British Gloster Meteor and German Me-262 jet fighters saw action at the end of the war), the first time they were used at scale and found themselves in jet-on-jet dogfights was in the Korean War. This was a time when Soviet jet fighters enjoyed a rough technological parity with their US counterparts (however briefly). The Korean War also erupted just three years after the formation of the United States Air Force after it was finally split off from the Army. Here are five iconic aircraft from the Korean War.
