Azerbaijan sent its first eastbound train on the Middle Corridor on 24 November. The train with petroleum coke is supposed to reach its destination in China in twelve days after transiting through Kazakhstan.
The train is taking 62 containers with petroleum coke to China. “The route opens up new opportunities for effective and quick freight transportation”, Kazakh Railways commented. The rail operator takes part in organising the service, together with Xi’an Free Trade Port, Absheron Logistics and ADY Express.
Kazakh Railways points out that transporting goods to China via train is a good alternative to maritime transport. “Earlier, a similar type of freight was shipped through the Turkish port of Trabzon with lorries with further maritime transport to China, which took more than 40 days”, the operator explained.
