The A-10C Thunderbolt II “Warthog” was the first United States Air Force aircraft specially designed for close air support of ground forces (and it has been well-loved by those ground forces). No matter what anyone thinks of the A-10 Warthog being still relevant or obsolete in future wars, everyone can agree it has the most formidable cannon of any US fighter jet. But now that the F-35A is replacing it, can the F-35A actually take over the Warthog’s close air support role?
