Can the Europeans manufacture modern multirole fighter jets without US components and technology? This article will restrict itself to the three European multirole fighter jets currently in production – the Saab JAS 39 Gripen, the Dassault Rafale, and the Typhoon Eurofighter. It should be noted that this discussion is not limited to the Europeans – for example, around 15% of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 components are sourced from the United Kingdom, meanwhile the Russians have been struggling to manufacture their Sukhoi Su-57 due to Western sanctions.
