Analysis: Why Russia Is On Track To Miss Its Target Of 1,000 New Passenger Aircraft By 2030

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it was manufacturing the Sukhoi Superjet (a regional passenger commercial jet) and was about to start serial production of its MC-21 (a Boeing 737 competitor). International sanctions then cut Russia off from the international aviation market overnight. Defiant, Russia quickly stated it would produce 1,000 passenger aircraft by 2030 to replace its Boeing and Airbus fleets. Almost three years later, it is becoming more obvious that it will miss that target by a long shot. To date (November 2024), not one jet has yet been delivered.
