The Soviet Union officially ceased to exist on December 26, 1991, meaning the Cold War was really over (it had officially ended two years prior, on December 3, 1989). Today, many of the world’s most modern fighter jets – like the F-22 Raptor, Typhoon Eurofighters, Flanker family, etc. have their original development in the era of the Iron Curtain. But how many multirole fighter jets’ and bombers’ developments trace from the post-Cold War world? This article does not consider advanced trainers and light fighters like South Korea’s KAI T-50 Golden Eagle or the new T-7 Red Hawk advanced trainer.
