Over a decade ago, when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner entered service with Japanese network carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA), it began a period in which the capabilities of this impressive aircraft would change the nature of the aviation industry. Historically, large international airlines like British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and United Airlines have operated via a pure hub-and-spoke system, in which passengers were funneled via large hub airports, which allowed airlines to place larger long-range aircraft on routes to or from their hubs and be sure that the seats would be filled.
