Locals in Melbourne’s booming southeast have sent politicians a blueprint for the region, outlining their ideas for job, housing and liveability opportunities.
The idea of an Airport in the south east of Australia’s largest city is not a new one. One benefit would be the lack of unnecessary travel from the burgeoning south east to Melbourne Airport if one needed to travel to another destination but I cannot see many international airlines using the airport. Domestic airlines could work with lower cost carriers given access to the proposed airport for domestic routes.
Could it be the lack of a rail line to Melbourne Airport has prompted this initiative as the costs to travel to and from the south east to Tullamarine would not be cheap.
Have we already over developed the south east? We have a disused rail line running past 80,000 homes where calls for trains have been ignored. I the airport did proceed then a rail line already reaches Koo Wee Rup and could be used in reverse to bring travellers to the proposed airport.
We have not got Melbourne and Avalon rail services right and we are thinking about a 3rd airport?
Honestly they can’t get a train to Cranbourne South and you want $billions to build an airport at KWR?
I imagine this would be a federal government investment with a private company/equity firm. Get a train working to Melbourne Airport with express airport services across the day from the south east (pakenham east) and Clyde and you will have it covered.
