Over 300 block trains have left China and travelled through the Middle Corridor so far in 2024. For next year, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is aiming at tripling this figure and reaching 1,000 convoys on this route.
ADY’s Chairman Rovshan Rustamov underlined this ambitious plan during a trilateral meeting with representatives from Georgian and Kazakh Railways. Other than the plan to increase the number of block trains coming from China, the parties also made decisions to activate the Middle Corridor joint venture established last year.
Other than increasing the number of westbound trains coming from China, Azerbaijan is also working on strengthening the eastbound connection. Less than a month ago, for example, the first train, loaded with petroleum coke, was sent from Azerbaijan to China, in cooperation with Kazakh Railways.
