Jeroen Weimar has been appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) in Victoria, commencing in the role from 27 January 2025.

The Department of Transport (DoT), Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and VicRoads came together as one new Department of Transport on 1 July 2019. On 1 January 2023, DoT was renamed the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).

DTP works closely with the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (MTIA) in delivering the major transport projects in planning and construction.

DTP and MTIA ensure major construction activities and disruptions are coordinated across the transport network, including plans to keep people moving through major works periods.

MTIA is comprised of the following project teams:

  • Level Crossing Removal Project
  • North East Link Project
  • West Gate Tunnel Project
  • Major Road Projects Victoria
  • Rail Projects Victoria

Premier Jacinta Allan said Weimar has significant logistical and leadership experience in transport and planning.

“I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm he will bring to the task of leading teams that will deliver the ongoing transformation of the transport network and the Government’s agenda to build more homes,” she said.

Over the last ten years, Weimar has held roles as Head of Transport Services at the Department of Transport, CEO of VicRoads, and CEO of Public Transport Victoria, where he worked to deliver a more reliable and accessible network. He was previously Chief Operating Officer of Transport for London.

Most recently, as Deputy Secretary of Housing Statement Implementation at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Weimar worked on and supported Ministers in delivering a series of major new reforms to Victoria’s planning system to build more homes, which were announced in October 2024.

Weimar also led Victoria’s operational response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including testing and vaccination. Under his leadership, the COVID-19 Response and its focus on logistics and community engagement quickly uplifted the state’s capacity to test and vaccinate Victorians at speed.

Weimar has held senior roles in the private and public sector in the United Kingdom. He has a post graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the London School of Economics. His extensive experience in logistics, public transport operations, service delivery and organisational reform has established him as an innovative leader.
