Greenbrier-Europe delivers first batch of intermodal wagons to the Dutch military

Military mobility, whether a buzzword or a necessity, has been in the spotlight since the invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s recent statement, stressing that “We need to spend more to avoid war,” underscores the urgency among NATO allies. Within this context, Greenbrier-Europe’s delivery of 25 intermodal wagons to the Dutch military marks a significant step forward.
“We are proud to announce that we have officially delivered the first 25 Sgnss 60’ intermodal wagons as part of our ongoing procurement contract of 75 wagons to the Dutch Ministry of Defence,” the company stated in a LinkedIn post. It added, “As we proceed with the remaining deliveries, we remain steadfast in our mission to support critical operations with reliable and advanced logistics solutions.”

The Dutch Ministry of Defence will utilise the wagons to transport military equipment. Unlike many European nations that primarily rely on road transport for military logistics, the Netherlands has a longstanding tradition of leveraging its rail network. The acquisition of dedicated, modern rolling stock exclusively for military use represents an upgrade that the Ministry takes pride in as it strengthens its logistical efficiency.
