Bombardier Aviation is one of the largest private jet manufacturers in the world. The company was first formed as a business segment in 1989 after Bombardier, a large industrial conglomerate, acquired Canadair in 1986 and Short Brothers aircraft in 1989. The company then acquired Learjet in 1990 and de Havilland Aircraft of Canada in 1992. These large aerospace companies eventually formed the business segment known as Bombardier Aviation.
