After being closed due to fires in Western Victoria the standard gauge line between Geelong and South Australia has been reopened.
Last evening trains were halted due to evacuations around Maroona (the fire did not get anywhere near the rail line) leaving several freight trains stranded on the line.
- 5MP1 was held at Berrybank and is now moving again.
- 7PM5 has begun moving east and has passed Maroona enroute to Melbourne.
- 1PM5 is still waiting at Dimboola
- 3PM7 is still at Nhill.
The Overland Passenger train has been cancelled for today. The Great Southern had to be rerouted via Broken Hill.
I wonder how necessary it was to close the line? Much disruption and for what?
Stopping or closing the line for a fire 100 kms away is a costly exercise and a power trip.
Victoria is the nanny state decisions costing $billions have been made for years.
Why close the line when the fire was no where near it?
Moar whinging…it never ends.
