Adif to invest 45 million euros for sidings along Algeciras-Zaragoza line

Spanish infrastructure manager Adif is investing 45 million euros for the development of a rolling highway service connecting the country’s largest port in Algeciras with Zaragoza, one of its main logistics hubs. Almost two thirds, 28 million euros, will be deployed to upgrade the section between Algeciras and Bobadilla, while the remaining 17 will be used for projects along the Madrid-Zaragoza section.
The first initiative entails the construction of sidings for 750-metre-long freight trains in La Roda de Andalucía and Bobadilla. More specifically, 26.7 million euros will be used to finance the extension of the sidings, while 1.5 million euros are meant “for technical assistance services for the control and monitoring of the works”, Adif claimed. The duration of the project is set at 17 months.

The investments along the Madrid-Zaragoza axis will be used for two initiatives. The first one also concerns the extension of sidings, this time in Arcos de Jalón and Sigüenza, for 8.37 million euros. The second tranche of investments, totalling 8.62 million euros, will finance the supply of switchgear for sidings along this section, including the ones in Arcos de Jalón and Sigüenza. In addition to these two locations, the works will interest sidings in Jadraque, Humanes de Mohernando, Paracuellos-Sabiñán, Morés and Épila.
