Unlike the United States Navy, which has operated dozens of aircraft carriers and multiple classes of these massive nuclear-powered vessels, carrier technology is newer for the People’s Liberation Army Navy, the marine warfare branch of the Chinese military. China currently operates only three seagoing aircraft carriers, with the Liaoning and Shandong both already in service today, and the Fujian, another aircraft carrier offering next-generation capabilities, is undergoing sea trials this year.
