IndiGo was founded in 2006 and commenced operations in August of that year with a flight from Delhi (DEL) to Imphal (IMF) via Guwahati (GAU). The low-cost carrier went from strength to strength, and by 2010, it had already surpassed Air India as the country’s third-largest carrier, behind Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways. A $15 billion order for 180 Airbus A320s in 2011 helped secure the airline’s future.
