Charity the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) is providing a free will writing service for the rail industry this March, available to both current and retired railway workers and their families.
RBF has teamed up with will writing service Bequeathed to offer this service, which gives users the option to create their will online or over the phone. Both services will provide a consultation with a solicitor to finalise the will.
Through this campaign, RBF are emphasising just how important will writing is. A new report from The National Will Register has found that 42 per cent of adults in the UK have not spoken to anyone about what should happen to their estate upon their passing. Writing a will is the only way to ensure that your final wishes for your estate are fulfilled. If you die without making a will, your estate will be divided based on laws out of your control and your wishes may not be carried out.
Users of the free will writing service are under no obligation to include a gift to RBF in their will. However, the charity hope that many in the industry will take the opportunity to consider supporting them. A gift left in a will, such as a donation, or a percentage of an estate, ensures that RBF can continue to support the Railway Family going through difficult times when they need them.
“Having worked in rail all my life I was familiar with Railway Benefit Fund and the good work that they do. When I heard about Will Month, I jumped at the chance to get mine sorted for free. I don’t have a lot, but I wanted to make sure everything was straightforward for my children after my day. Having a will in place is reassuring for all the family.” – David McDonald, Retired Rail Worker
