Yesterday, the Albanese Labor government and the Liberal-National Coalition teamed up to ram through deeply flawed legislation that could have serious consequences for free speech.
One Nation did not support this legislation. It was sprung on Parliament with no warning, rushed through using procedural tricks to avoid scrutiny, and deliberately designed to deny other parties the time needed to properly examine it and take an informed position.
We backed efforts to delay its passage and supported amendments to fix its dangerous flaws. But the major parties were determined to shut down debate and force it through.
While One Nation strongly supports tougher penalties for violent terrorists, we will never support reckless laws that undermine freedoms speech.
That’s why I refused to take part in this sham vote, and I stand by that decision. One Nation will always defend our national security and your right to free speech, no matter how much the major parties try to silence us. This is on Labor and the Coalition.
