The ATR 72 is a popular twin-turboprop regional airliner built by Franco-Italian manufacturer ATR. The type is a larger version of the company’s smaller ATR 42 model, with the numbers in the model names representing the aircraft’s typical capacity. The ATR 72 has been produced since the late 1980s, and, having first flown in October 1988, it entered service almost exactly a year later with Finnair.
